About Me

I am the oldest of six girls raised by a family practice doctor and an operating room nurse in San Francisco. I realized I wanted to be a nurse in seventh grade when I had to write a paper about what I wanted to be when I grew up. Three out of six of us are in health care so it must also be genetic. I remember how I felt at a career day on the lawn of Santa Clara University when I learned about nurse practitioners. I felt a sense of “Wow, I know what I am going to do.” I began my registered nurse career with Kaiser Permanente in labor and delivery after graduating from the University of Portland in 1980. I moved back to San Francisco in 1986 to get my master’s degree in nursing at the University of California, San Francisco. I returned to Kaiser Permanente’s Northwest region as a women’s health care nurse practitioner, married, and had two girls. One was born in 1989 and the other in 1995 at the advanced maternal age of 38 I gave birth to my second daughter. We moved with our daughters to Colorado in 2000.

About my practice

Being a women’s health care nurse practitioner is all about health promotion and illness prevention. So Kaiser Permanente is the perfect place to be a nurse practitioner. As 29 years and counting with Kaiser Permanente continue (in the Northwest, Northern California and now the Colorado region), I have found many opportunities to continue to gain new skills and knowledge. With the ever advancing technology of health care, I can assist women in all age groups beginning with the teen years to make healthy choices, have the best possible pregnancies and deal with difficult situations that I hope to help make better. Recently, I became a certified menopause practitioner as I really wanted to understand the transition women go through for my patient’s sake and my own so, as baby boomers, we can embrace becoming older in in the healthiest way possible. I feel very fortunate that I can say I love my job and I am grateful that I have such a wonderful group of women to work with at the Southwest clinic.

How I thrive

I love spending time with my family cooking. This often leads to entertaining and being physically active whether in the garden or walking our German Shepard. I have found a new love of reading especially historical fiction and continue to be creative, whether putting fabric together into a quilt or pictures into scrapbook. I continue to find spiritual peace in my church. I visit San Francisco often to cherish the time I can spend with my father in the house I grew up in and embrace my inner Filipino. When all of us girls get together it is wilder now than it was growing up having added six nieces, three nephews and their dads to the original six.
