About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself and tell you about my practice. I feel very fortunate to work at Kaiser Permanente. I enjoy working with my wonderful colleagues and our members, and I look forward to taking care of your orthopedic needs.

Biography

I am a native Southern Californian who was born at a Kaiser Permanente facility and raised as a member in the South Bay area. My interest in pursuing a career in medicine and becoming an orthopedic surgeon began in high school. I was influenced by my interest in sports, an anatomy class I took (learning how the human body works), and my desire to help others return to function. I especially liked that I could combine all of these aspects into one medical practice by becoming an orthopedic surgeon. Prior to joining Kaiser Permanente, I worked for two years in private practice in my parents' home state of Hawaii.

About my practice

As a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacement of the hip and knee, I am especially interested in the treatment of arthritis. This includes both surgical and nonsurgical techniques. My philosophy is that the treatment of arthritis and joint replacement surgery require a team effort. This not only involves the surgical-medical team, but also incorporates the surgeon, member, and medical staff to collectively make the best treatment decisions (with the member's best interests in mind). Through this sort of team effort, I believe the member ultimately benefits the most and attains better results. I feel honored that members would entrust me with their care and strive to treat them as I would my own family.

How I thrive

I believe in Kaiser Permanente's philosophy of health in body, mind, and spirit and try to incorporate it into my life each day. In my spare time, I especially enjoy spending time with my lovely wife and daughters. We enjoy participating in and watching various sporting activities (such as football, basketball, baseball, wrestling, and gymnastics). I also enjoy teaching the martial art and sport of Judo (I am a former national champion and international competitor).
