About Me
I was born in South Korea and moved with my family to Colorado when I was two years old. I received my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and then traveled to Hawaii for further studies. I did a psychiatry internship and residency at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry.
After completing my training, I spent several years living and working on the East Coast. When the opportunity came to return to the islands, it truly felt like coming home. My husband and I feel grateful to be raising our children here, surrounded by the aloha spirit and the incredible beauty of Hawaii.
About my practice
I’ve always enjoyed helping people in whatever way I can. When my father had major heart surgery, I became much more aware of the importance of taking preventive health measures and adopting a healthy lifestyle. A career in medicine seemed like a way I could make a significant difference in people’s lives.
I was drawn to the specialty of psychiatry because of its emphasis on the mind-body-spirit connection in achieving optimal health.
Attending conferences, reading professional journals, and accessing online resources help me to keep up-to-date with trends in psychiatry and other medical research. I also attend continuing education programs and consult colleagues within psychiatry and in other medical specialties.
When I joined Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I was excited to experience the professional collaboration among physicians and providers. The team approach to managing health is one of the most effective ways to ensure that patients receive the best care possible.
Living a balanced life, practicing moderation, building meaningful relationships, and staying true to yourself are key to being healthy and happy. I also believe that everyone has a story worth hearing. A strong doctor-patient relationship is built on mutual respect and open, honest communication – these are the foundations of truly effective care.
How I thrive
I’m always striving to achieve balance between work, family, and personal time in my life. My children help to keep me active, and exploring the beauty of the islands also helps me to recharge both physically and mentally. I also enjoy relaxing on the beach, going for a paddle, spending time with my family and friends, and dining out.
