About Me
Hi! Welcome to my Web page. Many of my patients call me Dr. Jessica but their parents attempt my last name. It looks easy but don't be fooled! I have an extra vowel stuck in there. So if you want to try it, think "flowersen" and drop the F. Then you'll say my name right!
Biography
I was born and raised in San Diego before heading off to become a doctor. Most of my training took place at Tulane University in New Orleans : undergraduate, medical school, and ophthalmology residency. Yes, I was in New Orleans during "the storm," or Hurricane Katrina as it's known to the rest of the country. I completed my fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, under the leadership of many wonderful and world-renowned mentors. I am very happy to have returned to my hometown!
About my practice
It is very important to me that my patients have as positive an experience in my clinic as possible. Children are very different from adults and often react to challenging situations in unexpected ways. My bachelor's degree is in child development because even at an early age I knew I would spend my life working with children. My team and I try to keep the mood light and use tactics that seem like games to my patients when I am actually performing my examination. Of course, not every exam will be easy but we are very capable of handling those situations as well!
How I thrive
It's easy to thrive when you have such wonderful patients like I do! When I'm not working I try to take advantage of all San Diego has to offer. I spend most of my off time with my siblings, five nephews, and teenage daughter. We hike, camp, go to the beach, go horseback riding, snowboard and just have fun!
