About Me
Hi, my name is Dr. Joseph Chen. I’m glad to have the opportunity to present my credentials to you and share other information about myself. It’s very important that you feel comfortable with your personal physician, and I hope this page will help you get to know me better.
Biography
I was born and raised in Orange County, and in 2002 I received my BS in biology at UC Irvine. Afterward, I traveled on medical missions to several countries, such as Mexico, China, and Ecuador. These experiences made me want to pursue a career in medicine. I then went to UC Irvine School of Medicine and graduated in 2008. I finished my general surgery residency at UC Irvine in 2013, followed by a plastic surgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital in 2016. Afterward, I completed a microsurgery fellowship at UC San Francisco in 2017, and I’m currently the reconstructive microsurgeon at Kaiser Permanente’s South Bay Medical Center.
About my practice
My practice is focused on microsurgery and performing advanced reconstructions for members with breast cancer, head and neck cancers, lower extremity wounds, and any other areas of the body that have complex wounds that require free tissue transfer or local flaps to reconstruct. I also perform general plastic surgery services.
How I thrive
I live well by snowboarding, being a DJ, breakdancing, swimming, paintballing, and most importantly, spending time with friends and family.
