About Me

Hello, and welcome to my Web page. My name is Ghayathri Jeyakumar. I was born in Sri Lanka, Colombo, and along with my family moved to United States at the age of five years old. I have lived in Southern California since then and tam hrilled to be back home. I love tennis and doing a type of Indian classical dance called bharata natyam. I have been performing since the age of seven, and am very excited to return to it. I have a very supportive husband and a loving daughter.

Biography

I completed my undergraduate degree in animal physiology and neuroscience at UC San Diego; I then worked for two years in research at the VA Hospital of San Diego. I graduated from St. Georges University in 2009, and then had my residency in internal medicine at New York Hospital Queens, which is a community hospital associated with Cornell University. After that, I moved to Houston, Texas for a two-year leukemia fellowship at MD Anderson Cancer Center. After completion of that I went to Detroit, Michigan to do a three-year fellowship in hematology-oncology at Karmanos Cancer Institute-Wayne State University. I graduated in 2017 and now happy to be back home to be a part of Kaiser Permanente.

About my practice

I am a hematologist and oncologist, so I see both blood disorders and cancer. I know finding out one has cancer can be difficult and can be emotionally hard to cope. My goal is not to help just you battle cancer physically but also to support you emotionally. My key emphasis is positive attitude and with that together as a team we can overcome the most challenging things in our lives like cancer.

How I thrive

How I thrive is by praying, doing exercise, or playing sports and dancing bharata natyam. I like to encourage all my patients to "thrive" as well. We at Kaiser Permanente make that our goal and work together to accomplish it.
