About Me

Originally born in Flint, Michigan, my family relocated to Vienna, Virginia when I was only 5 years old. I grew up in an ethnically diverse household with widely varying religious backgrounds. This has given me a broader world perspective, which continues to serve me well throughout my lifetime. Through my parents’ hard work and diligence, I was fortunate enough to attend the University of Virginia for my undergraduate degree and continued my medical education and subsequent residency training at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. After completing my training in 2002, I decided to take a chance and work in an exotic locale while I was trying to figure out where I wanted to begin my career. Kaiser Permanente Hawaii gave me such and amazing experience that I have never left. I truly consider this my home.

About my practice

My father is a professor of public health and my mother is a newly retired Kaiser Permanente physician of 35 years in our Mid-Atlantic States region. It only seemed natural that I would enter into medicine given their wonderful influence but, more importantly, to fulfill my fundamental desire to help people. As a child, I saw firsthand the wonderful connections that my mother shared with her patients and this shaped my decision to go into internal medicine. Kaiser Permanente’s greatest strength lies in its integrated health care system and we truly get to practice in an upbeat and amiable environment. I greatly enjoy the camaraderie amongst the staff, without any semblance of hierarchy. Together, we work as a team to solve the most complex of problems and depend on each other to succeed. The care we deliver is always patient centered and backed by evidence-based medicine. We try to always do what is best for the patient, regardless of cost or circumstance. The ultimate goal of our team is to deliver the right treatment to the right patient at the right time.

How I thrive

I am lucky to be able to stay mentally and physically active. I have surrounded myself with wonderful friends and family that keep me happily entertained every day. My favorite leisure activities are volleyball, golf, basketball, tennis, cooking, reading, hanging out with family and friends and staying up late to watch movies. I especially love spending time with my fiancé and soon-to-be stepchildren.
