About Me
Hello, and welcome to my Web page. My name is Dr. Jenny Phung-Payne, and I'm a family physician in Long Beach. I generally go by Dr. Phung for ease. I would like to take this opportunity to help you get to know me better.
Biography
My parents immigrated to America from Vietnam, but we are ethnically Chinese (Cantonese). I was born in the San Gabriel Valley, then along with my family moved to Las Vegas when I was 10. I attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas for my first two years of college before transferring to UC Irvine. I graduated with a B.S. in biological sciences and a minor in Asian American studies. I worked as a behavior therapist for children with autism for two years before attending medical school at UC Davis. I then moved back to Southern California to complete my family medicine residency training at Long Beach Memorial.
About my practice
I chose to become a family physician because I believe in continuity of care, preventive care, and the sacred physician-patient relationship. I believe that emotional and mental health directly affect physical health. Being a family physician allows me to treat the whole person. I'm also aware that patients' backgrounds and communities are important to consider when providing quality care.
How I thrive
I try to practice what I preach. I do my best to follow the same recommendations I give my patients about healthy lifestyle choices. I play tennis with my husband, I run with my German Shepherd mix Ginger, I take advantage of free yoga on the bluffs in Long Beach. On days I don't feel like leaving the house, I will jump rope for exercise. To help my mind and spirit thrive, I reflect on the connections I've made with my patients, and how grateful I am to be a physician that patients can trust and open up to.
