I was born in Washington, D.C. and grew up in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. I went to medical school at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. and subsequently completed my internal medicine residency at the University of Utah. I then trained at the University of New Mexico for my gastroenterology fellowship and advanced endoscopy fellowship.
For me, medicine combines the competency, knowledge and research of science with the clinical skills and ability to help others. It is a combination of competency with compassion. I chose to specialize in gastroenterology because it represents a unique combination of internal medicine elements that focuses on patient interaction and medical management of diseases with the additional ability to diagnose and intervene endoscopically.
