About Me
I was born and raised on the mainland but Hawaii has been our home since 2003. I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida State University and graduated with a medical degree from the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. I did my internal medicine residency and pulmonary and critical care fellowship training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
I’m a fellow of both the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians, and I’m board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. I’m also a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan and retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service.
My family and I came to Hawaii while I was still serving in the military and we fell in love with the islands. Of all my life’s accomplishments, I value most my roles as husband and father.
About my practice
I enjoy challenging cases. My professional interests are lung cancer, advanced diagnostic procedure, pleural disease, and medical education. I’m a clinical associate professor of medicine at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine.
Awards I’ve received include Honolulu Magazine’s “Top Doctors” recognition, the American College of Physicians LEAD award, multiple residency teaching awards and military awards including the Bronze Star. I’m also a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
I’ve given numerous talks at professional meetings including those hosted by the American College of Physicians, the American College of Chest Physicians, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. My research findings on pulmonary hypertension, ventilator-associated pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung transplant have been published in various medical journals.
To keep up with the latest developments in medicine, I try to learn something new each day, especially about the patients I’ve just seen. I read multiple professional journals and attend scientific meetings to stay connected with colleagues in my specialty.
I was looking for a care delivery system that emphasized patient wellness, and Hawaii Permanente Medical Group embodies this approach. I strive to provide compassionate, personalized, up-to-date care in an atmosphere of mutual trust. It’s very rewarding to work in partnership with my patients and their families during difficult times in their lives.
How I thrive
When I’m away from work, I unwind by spending time with family and trying to keep up with my two sons. I also enjoy travel, reading and cooking.
