About Me

Hi, I am Dr. Jeffrey Nerenberg. My specialty is physical medicine and rehabilitation. Welcome to my Web page. I am hopeful that this information will be useful to you.

Biography

I am from Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota for both my undergraduate studies and medical school. I completed my physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at UC Irvine. I received board certification by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1990. My wife and I fell in love with Southern California and choose to escape the cold. I was fortunate to be introduced to Kaiser Permanente working nights as a resident physician at Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Primary Care until accepting a position in physical medicine at Kaiser Permanente San Diego in 1989. I have two siblings who are physicians and my father was an ophthalmologist in the Twin Cities.

About my practice

I truly enjoy my practice. It is very gratifying to help our members by diagnosing and treating painful conditions such as osteoarthritis and degenerative disc disease. Our department works very well, teaming with the Kaiser Permanente Interventional Pain Department and the Physical/Occupational Therapy Department. In addition to the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal pain conditions, another major part of our practice is working in rehabilitation for members with spinal cord injury, stroke, and closed head injuries. We are all focused on functional improvement and optimizing rehabilitation for these conditions, focusing on restoring and improving their quality of life.

How I thrive

I believe in the philosophy of thriving and I try to live it in my life every day (remember to exercise and eat right!). My wife and I have two children, a son and daughter both born in Southern California. My family life is my major priority for me. We take fun trips together and keep a very close relationship. My wife is a psychologist and my son is an acupuncturist, both also enjoying the health care field. I like to be active every day and try to do something different to keep it interesting. I can be found swimming, cycling, or at the gym almost every day. Despite a busy schedule, I still have time to take in a good book or movie. I am very much in tune with preventive care and open to others’ philosophies on how to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
