About Me

Welcome. I am happy to have the opportunity to introduce myself. I have been an emergency physician for 31 years. Seven years ago I was promoted to physician coordinator for Kaiser Permanente's emergency department transfer service. The official name of this program is the Emergency Prospective Review Service (EPRP). Now I get to help members all over the state when they end up in a non–Kaiser Permanente emergency department.

Biography

I was born and raised in New York City. I started medical school in Brussels, Belgium, and then transferred to Mount Sinai School of Medicine, graduating in 1976. I feel very fortunate that my medical school education included four years in Europe studying in French. Being fluent in French has also helped me improve my Spanish language skills so I can communicate with our Spanish-speaking members.

About my practice

There are many ways that our members can wind up in non–Kaiser Permanente Emergency Departments. Once in an emergency room outside of the Kaiser Permanente system, they know to call EPRP as soon as they are reasonably able to do so. We help transfer you back to the Kaiser Permanente medical center where your doctors and medical records are.

How I thrive

I thrive by keeping active physically and mentally. I am an avid reader whose tastes range from mystery novels to nonfiction books in the political/foreign affairs genre. For physical health, I swim, bike, and run. About three to four times a year, I will participate in a triathlon, which is a race in which I generally swim a mile, bike 25 miles, and then run six miles. One great advantage of all this exercise is I get to eat a lot!
