About Me

Welcome to my Web page! I am a hematologist/oncologist at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center. I joined Kaiser Permanente right after my fellowship and have been here since 2003.

Biography

I was born in Taiwan but came to this country along with my family at the age of five. I grew up in Southern California and also explored other parts of the country during my school years. I left Southern California for four years while I attended college at UC Berkeley. Then I lived in New York for four years while attending Cornell Medical School. New York was much too cold, so I moved back to Southern California and have lived here ever since. I met my husband during our training at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and we now have seven-year-old twins. I'm often asked why I became an oncologist. I loved my pathology course in medical school and find this field incredibly fascinating. During my internal medicine training, I spent some time on the hematology/oncology service, and the field just felt right for me.

About my practice

Having my twins has been an incredible blessing. They have taught me so much about living! Knowing and living life (both the good and the bad aspects) is important to being a physician. Life experiences teach us to be human and help us develop empathy. One of the most difficult three months of my life was when I was on bed rest while pregnant. The experience has given me a better understanding of patients' fears and anxieties. I have two general principles that guide me in how I practice as a physician and how I live my life: to always try to do the right thing, and always give your best effort.

How I thrive

I thrive by spending time with my family. I also take spin and yoga/Pilates classes.
