About Me
I was raised in Ogden, Utah, and grew up with a love of skiing and the outdoors. I went to college at Gonzaga University, and am an avid Zag fan. Prior to going to medical school, I had the opportunity to live in Guatemala for a year, working as a volunteer at a local orphanage. This was one of the formative experiences in my life to date. It gave me not only a love of travel and new experiences, but also taught me how to be humble and grateful, and most importantly allowed me to become a more empathetic and caring person. I completed my family medicine residency at Drexel University in Philadelphia. While in college, I visited Colorado frequently and had always dreamed of living in this beautiful place, however it was not until graduating from residency that I had the opportunity.
I became a physician because of the ability and opportunity to impact people’s everyday lives and to improve them. I believe that being a physician is a great privilege and it inspires me to get out of bed each morning to help my patients and community. The most rewarding part about being a physician is having the opportunity to get to know each of my patients, not just by their health status, but who they are as people – I want to know about their family members, loved ones, work life and what they like to do in their free time. I try to treat each of my patients as if they were my own family member. I take pride in the success of my patients when it comes to achieving their health goals and will take opportunities to examine strategies when we have setbacks.
About my practice
I chose family medicine because I love taking care of families, from newborns to the elderly. My goal is not only to keep my patients healthy but also to provide preventive medicine. I hope to inspire each of my patients and work with them to live healthier lives. I want to meet each patient where they are and find shared goals when it comes to their health. I find that the best care is delivered when I not only work with the patient, but also when I work with several other providers within our medical group to coordinate my patient’s care. I have a passion for chronic care management of the most common diseases that affect our nation today, from diabetes and high blood pressure to obesity and high cholesterol. I try to prevent these diseases from occurring, but when they do occur, I enjoy treating them while supporting the patient’s quality of life. I know that there are many excellent physicians my patients can see for their health care, and I am humbled that they choose to see me. I make a concerted effort to improve each patient’s health and their life in general. Thank you in advance for trusting me with your care.
How I thrive
I grew up with a love of the outdoors. In Utah, we would frequently ski more than 40 days a year! I hope to do a little bit of skiing while in Colorado, but I fear that I won’t be able to ski as much as when I was a child. Since living in Guatemala, I have visited 18 other countries. Through my travels, I have gained an appreciation for new cultures and food – I learned how to make pasta in Italy, mole in Mexico, and haggis in Scotland (Seriously, you don’t want to know how this is done!), and now I enjoy cooking for family and friends. When not cooking or skiing, I enjoy an occasional game of golf and riding bikes.
