About Me
I am originally from Nashville, Tenn., and I met my wife in Atlanta while we were in college together at Emory University. We elected to spend my time in training in Chicago knowing that we would ultimately settle down in Atlanta because her family is here. While we loved Chicago, we are happy to be in Atlanta raising our two girls around family (free babysitters)! Many people do not understand the allure of gastroenterology (GI) to a medical student. I chose this field for a few reasons, the first being that I simply enjoyed reading about the organ system and diseases more than I enjoyed most other medical topics. Other appeals are that there is a mix of hospital and outpatient care, and it is nice to have variety in the course of the day by splitting time between procedures and clinic visits.
About my practice
I am very pleased to be working in the GI group at Kaiser Permanente because I feel that we have a good group of doctors, nurses, technicians and assistants. We work well together and communicate to provide high-quality care. It is very rewarding to work in a setting where you can discuss difficult or rare cases with colleagues to give and receive feedback. It is also very nice to work in a system that has such an expansive electronic medical record and makes it easy to use email as an option to communicate with patients who are comfortable with this format. It is very convenient to deal with some simple questions using email rather than taking a member's time with a clinic visit. The Kaiser Permanente system makes this possible.
How I thrive
The best way for me to be happy and feel productive and gratified with my life is through balance. For me, that means a full work life, time with my family and time to myself. While work is obviously very important and also very fulfilling, I think most people would say that family comes first, and I am no different. The best part of any day for me is the time I spend with my girls, and I suspect that will never change. I do my best to get regular exercise, follow my favorite sports teams, read and keep up with friends. My biggest mindless activity has to be football, both college and professional. My favorite teams are the LSU Tigers and the Atlanta Falcons.
