About Me
My name is Dr. Bat Smith, and I am a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. I specialize in trauma surgery and foot and ankle surgery. I have been a member of the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Orthopedic Surgery Department since 2011.
Biography
Originally from Southern California, I moved north to attend medical school at UC San Francisco. After an orthopedic surgery residency at Loma Linda University and a fellowship in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery, I moved to San Diego to stay. During my time in San Diego, I have gained experience as chief of foot and ankle at UC San Diego, assistant chief in our Orthopedic Surgery Department at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, and as regional chief for Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Surgery for Southern California Kaiser Permanente.
I am an active member of American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. Because I am fascinated by the orthopedic anatomy and fulfilled by fixing injuries that cause pain and discomfort, I believe that orthopedic surgery is the best career I could have chosen for myself.
About my practice
In addition to my expertise in general orthopedic and trauma surgery, I specialize in total ankle replacement, ankle arthroscopy, cartilage injuries, and ankle ligament reconstruction. I find immense satisfaction in collaborating with members to devise tailored treatment plans that cater to their unique needs and lifestyle.
I am fortunate to be supported by a dedicated and collaborative team of surgeons, clinical staff, advanced practice providers, and clerical staff. Together, we coordinate and deliver high-quality care to members.
How I thrive
I believe that balance helps me not only in my personal life but also in providing better care as a physician. I enjoy scuba diving, camping, and spending time with my family.
