About Me

I was born in Southern California and grew up in the town of Glendora as the youngest of three children. I got married while in medical school and had my first baby during the third year of my medical education. My husband and I first came to Hawaii for a belated honeymoon on our ninth anniversary. We immediately fell in love with everything here and visited every year until we decided to make the islands our permanent home. My husband and my three boys are my greatest support.

About my practice

I knew from early on that I wanted to be a doctor, and my parents were always encouraging. I was inspired by both my childhood family doctor and by a family doctor in the community whom I had the privilege of shadowing as an undergraduate. There’s something I love in every aspect of medicine. Family practice was my choice of specialty because it gave me the opportunity to be on the front line serving people with a wide range of health care needs. As a family physician I also have the opportunity to know and treat the whole family and watch them grow and change over the years.

In order to stay up-to-date in medicine, I subscribe to several online medical journals, and I enjoy discussing medical situations with my colleagues and learning from them. I’m also involved with leadership development in my church.

Before moving to Hawaii, I worked with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group. I love the support system and team approach that's built into the Kaiser Permanente model, which allows me to provide care based on evidence and current research. I was happy to join the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, where I could continue practicing in this way in a location that my family and I love.

I believe in treating the whole person and not simply the disease. This means serving health care needs while acknowledging and addressing the many factors that contribute to a person's illness, including emotional, psychological, and spiritual influences.

How I thrive

Running is my favorite way to exercise. In my leisure time I also enjoy cooking, reading, and spending time with my husband and boys. My family and faith keep me going.
