About Me
I was raised in Colorado Springs and initially intended on pursuing a career in sports medicine, but immediately was drawn to oncology in my first clinical experiences. I feel truly privileged to provide both emotional and medical help to each patient. I enjoy teaching and research, and was honored to serve as chief resident at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and chief fellow during my oncology training at the University of Colorado. After fellowship, I served as an assistant professor at Emory University, primarily treating cancers of the head/neck and lung. After having our first baby, my wife and I decided to move back to Denver where I have immensely enjoyed working with Kaiser Permanente. I was honored to be recognized as a 5280 Magazine Top Doctor in 2019.
About my practice
My areas of focus are gastrointestinal, neuroendocrine, sarcoma, breast, lung, hematologic, head and neck malignancies and benign hematology. I choose to work for Kaiser Permanente because I can collaborate with an excellent team of specialists, pharmacists and nurses to provide outstanding care. We all share the common goal of utilizing knowledge and empathy to provide the best care for patients in their fight against cancer. I also find it gratifying to work closely with my colleagues in Surgery and Radiation Oncology to provide the best care possible. The key to a strong physician-patient partnership in this fight is having a close relationship and open line of communication. The electronic medical record system at Kaiser Permanente allows for comprehensive care, and I appreciate how easy it is for patients to communicate with us by phone or email.
How I thrive
I enjoy downhill skiing during the winter, and running, biking, hiking and playing tennis in the summer. Quality time with my wife and 2 boys has always been very important to me. Having time to reflect – whether through physical activity or reading for enjoyment – is a necessary means to provide balance to one’s life, and I believe this helps me to be a better physician.
