About Me

Hello, and welcome to my Web page. I am an orthopaedic surgeon at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center. The field of orthopaedic surgery is particularly rewarding because I help restore function and movement so patients can once again enjoy good physical health.

Biography

I am a native of Southern California. I grew up down the street from a preeminent orthopaedic rehabilitation facility, Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. During high school, I began volunteering there, and became interested in the musculoskeletal system. I observed my first surgery when I was 15, and was hooked. I became fascinated with science and anatomy, and knew I wanted to become a doctor. I attended medical school in Texas, and returned to California to complete my training at University of Southern California. I have been practicing at Kaiser Permanente for over 20 years, initially at the Fontana Medical Center for 10 years, and for the last 11 years at the Riverside Medical Center.

About my practice

The practice of orthopaedic surgery involves care of the musculoskeletal system. Patients can be treated through the use of medicines, splinting, and therapy, as well as surgery. Orthopaedics is a broad field, so many surgeons receive additional training on a particular area of orthopaedics. I have additional specialty training in problems that relate to the hand and upper extremities, and that is the primary focus of my practice. I treat patients born with congenital anomalies as well as patients suffering from arthritis pain and stiffness. I take particular interest in joint replacement of the elbows, wrists and hands.

How I thrive

As an orthopaedist, I spend the majority of my time trying to restore my patients back to good physical condition. I firmly believe in staying fit, and using exercise as medicine. I personally enjoy running, snow and water skiing, and scuba diving. I have been running consistently at least three times a week for the last 35 years. I have participated in numerous charitable runs and several full and half-marathons, including the Orange County and Los Angeles Marathons. For the last two years, my son has been joining me on these runs. Scuba diving with my family is one of the most enjoyable and relaxing activities. As a family, we take in the beauty and wonder of the underwater world.
