About Me

I am delighted to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician on the bone marrow transplant team at Kaiser Permanente. I am a board-certified hematologist and I have subspecialty training in stem cell transplantation. I joined the bone marrow transplant team at Kaiser Permanente Southern California in November 2013. Our group is the bone marrow transplant referral center for all of Kaiser Permanente's Southern California region. I am very happy and proud to be to be able to work at Kaiser Permanente and to try to provide the best and most advanced care for our members.

Biography

I am originally from Vietnam, but I immigrated to the United States at the age of 5 and have spent almost all of my life here. I grew up in Kansas, where I stayed for medical school and internal medicine internship and residency. Then I moved to the San Francisco for fellowship training in hematology and bone marrow transplantation. In 2004 I finished all my training and joined the faculty of the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at University of Utah, where I stayed for nine years. All these years I have been involved in basic science and clinical research along with member care in bone marrow transplantation.

About my practice

My subspecialty requires that I work very closely in an integrated team. I work not only with other physicians, but also with nurses, laboratory personnel, social workers, and many other staff. I am proud to say that we have an outstanding team who always try to provide the best and most comprehensive care to our members. We care for members who have diseases that are potentially life-threatening, including may types of cancer and bone marrow failure. The bone marrow and stem cell transplant treatments and the complications that can occur require constant attention to not only the physical condition but also the emotions of another human being. We constantly try to give the best care to our members and their families.

How I thrive

I have two children at home who keep my wife and I very busy. I love the time I get to spend with my family. I used to commute by bicycle to work, which is now impractical here in Los Angeles, but I still take my road bike to the various bike trails here in Southern California whenever I get a chance. Overall, I am very happy to live in Southern California with its diversity of people and places.
