About Me

I grew up in Minnesota but have since lived in several parts of the U.S., as well as in France, Finland, and Germany. I obtained my undergraduate degrees in French and biology from Smith College in Massachusetts. I then graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed my residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Duke University Medical Center. I came to Hawaii because I wanted to experience its unique culture and lifestyle.

About my practice

My initial career plan was to become a medical researcher; however, while I was in college, I discovered that I thrived on personal interaction and making a more immediate difference in people’s lives. I realized that clinical medicine would allow me to combine my love of science and concern for others. The practice of obstetrics and gynecology was appealing to me because it involves both surgery and primary care. I especially enjoy taking care of patients over the course of their lives. And, it should be no surprise that I love delivering babies! I’m a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. To keep up with current medical research, I read medical journals and online materials, attend conferences, participate in continuing medical education programs, and consult with colleagues. The values of the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group match my own as a physician. I strive to provide the best medical care possible with compassion and concern for every patient. My philosophy of care is to include my patients in the decision-making process to ensure what’s best for them as individuals. I love taking care of first-time moms as well as experienced moms. Being a part of such an exciting and special time in their lives means a lot to me. When my patients repeat what I said to them during earlier pregnancies, I’m gratified to know that they’re really listening to the things I tell them.

How I thrive

I stay fit by practicing yoga and swimming. Taking time to explore new places gives me a clearer perspective on my own world. My life’s pleasures include reading, diving, cooking, trying new foods and restaurants, walking my dog, and planning my next trip.
