About Me

I grew up in Hawaii and went to college and medical school at the nearby University of Hawaii. I came to Portland for training in dermatology at Oregon Health & Science University--and never left. Members often ask me, especially on dark, cold, and wet winter days, how I could choose to live in Oregon over Hawaii, but for me, there’s no competition. Becoming a doctor and specifically, a dermatologist, was a pretty easy decision. Growing up, I spent a lot of time as a patient in dermatologists’ offices, which fostered my idea of becoming one myself.

About my practice

I have worked at Kaiser for my entire career since 1995. I feel lucky to work next to excellent fellow dermatologists who are younger and smarter than me and with whom I can share and consult with over medical problems. My role as a General Dermatologist is to diagnose and treat any problems related to the skin. I especially enjoy detecting and removing skin cancers. One of my greatest joys working is meeting, getting to know, educating, and hopefully helping all kinds of people every work day.

How I thrive

I thrive by being on the move - whether it be taking a walk at lunch, playing tennis, hiking, bicycling to work, snowboarding, or just pacing. I do stay still for another interest, reading. My household is down to my wife and our cat. My children have grown up and out of the house but still are a big part of our lives.
