About Me
Welcome to my Web page. My name is Chris O'Brien, and I specialize in infectious disease at the Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center.
Biography
I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago but also spent a few years living in Dublin, Ireland. My primary hobby at that time was playing piano, both classical and jazz. My interests in science and diagnostic challenges led me to choose medicine as a career. My undergraduate studies initially brought me to California many years ago. Today I am happy to call San Diego my home.
About my practice
My practice in the hospital revolves primarily around treating patients admitted with severe infections, such as pneumonia and meningitis. In the ambulatory care setting, I care for mostly HIV-positive patients, but I also see patients with tropical diseases from their travels abroad. In our HIV clinic, we have our own social worker and pharmacist who specialize in issues related to HIV care. I value the relationships I have developed with my patients as we work together in meeting their goals for their health.
How I thrive
I exercise regularly and particularly enjoy Pilates. I continue to keep my mind sharp, not only with continuing studies in medicine, but also with foreign languages and keeping up with current events as an avid newspaper reader. I enjoy experiencing the culture and history of various countries in my travels, particularly those of European cities. Most of all, the wonderful weather and recreational activities in San Diego have created a healthy environment for me to care for myself, as well as my patients.
