About Me

Welcome to my Web page. I am happy to have this chance to introduce myself to you and tell you about my work as a physician at Kaiser Permanente. I am an emergency medicine physician and have practiced for more than 29 years in Orange County. In 1997 and after 11 years of service, I left a successful and challenging Emergency Department staff physician position at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach in order to be part of the outstanding team approach to medicine practiced here at Kaiser Permanente.

Biography

Having been born and raised in Southern California, I continue to live the California dream with my family here in Orange County. I've been happily married for 35 years and have three children: two out of college, one finishing her nursing degree. One is married (no grandkids yet!) and I enjoy as many activities as possible with them, which includes beach volleyball, golf, snowboarding, and camping. I'm also very active in my church, with several mission trips to the Philippines and Africa being the highlights of my efforts. I've wanted to be a physician since my childhood experience with a medical emergency while camping, having to wait for five hours for my mother to be treated at an incredibly understaffed Indian reservation clinic. Emergency medicine has always intrigued me, even before medical school at USC, but especially ever since I volunteered at the UCLA Medical Center emergency room when I was an undergraduate.

About my practice

Our team here in Orange County includes physicians, nurses, and other professionals who provide compassionate care in a friendly environment. We want to work together with you to address your specific health needs and concerns while you are here in our busy emergency department. Since both Orange County Medical Centers (Anaheim and Irvine) are paramedic receiving centers, we receive all types of emergencies, and the days can be pretty hectic. Over time, I work all the various shifts in our 24/7 schedule, so every week is different but always challenging!

How I thrive

Emergency medicine can be stressful, and my down time from Kaiser Permanente is important to me. My faith and my family are my top priorities. Through small-group Bible studies, I keep grounded spiritually. Through sports mainly beach volleyball, I try to keep in shape. I've coached volleyball at the junior high, club, and high school levels for 11 years for all of my children, and have always enjoyed watching them as well. Of course, there's always golf, but as it sometimes takes me five hours for a round and since I can't afford that kind of time too many times a month, I never seem to improve!
