Vertigo: Exercises

Skip Navigation

Here are some examples of exercises for you to try. They may be suggested for a condition or for rehabilitation. Start each exercise slowly. Ease off the exercises if you start to have nausea or vomiting. Talk to your doctor about medicines that may help these symptoms.

You will be told when to start these exercises and which ones will work best for you.

How to do the exercise

Head movements while standing

  1. Stand with a chair in front of you and a wall behind you. If you begin to fall, you can use them for support. Now stand with your feet together and your arms at your side.
  2. Move your head up and down 10 times.
  3. Move your head side to side 10 times.
  4. Move your head diagonally up and down 10 times.
  5. Move your head diagonally up and down 10 times on the other side.

Do this exercise 2 times a day. Try to progress to doing this 15 to 20 times for each head movement. Then try to do this with your eyes closed.

Follow-up care is a key part of your treatment and safety. Be sure to make and go to all appointments, and contact your doctor if you are having problems. It's also a good idea to know your test results and keep a list of the medicines you take.
