Recovery is a process that over time helps a person with a mental health or substance use disorder find a path to living a meaningful life. It helps people make lifestyle, attitude, and behavior changes so they can reach their goals.

Recovery is used for problems such as substance use disorder, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Medicines and therapy usually are needed for successful recovery.
