Gender identity

Skip Navigation

Gender identity is your inner sense of being male, female, both, neither, or some other gender. And for some people, gender identity can shift or be flexible.

Many people feel that their gender identity matches their sex assigned at birth (cisgender). But for some people, their gender identity does not match the sex that they were assigned at birth. Some become aware of this in childhood. Others make this discovery as adults.
