Child's Well Visit, 14 to 15 Months: Care Instructions

Skip Navigation

Your child may be able to say a few words. And your child may let you know what they want by pointing.

Your child may drink from a cup. And they may walk and climb stairs.

How can you care for your child age 14 to 15 months?

  • Keep hot liquids out of reach. Put plastic plug covers in electrical sockets. Put in smoke detectors and check their batteries.
  • Always use a rear-facing car seat. Install it in the back seat.
  • Do not leave your child alone around water, including pools, hot tubs, and bathtubs.
  • Brush your child's teeth twice a day and floss once a day. Use a tiny amount of toothpaste with fluoride.
  • Keep guns away from children. If you have guns, lock them up unloaded. Lock ammunition away from guns.
  • Don't say no all the time or have too many rules. They can confuse your child.
  • Teach your child how to use words to ask for things.
  • Set a good example. Don't get angry or yell in front of your child.
  • Be calm but firm if your child says no to something they must do. And praise them when they do well.
  • Offer healthy foods, including fruits and well-cooked vegetables.
  • Know which foods cause choking, like grapes and hot dogs.
  • Make sure your child gets all the recommended vaccines.

Follow-up care is a key part of your child's treatment and safety. Be sure to make and go to all appointments, and contact your doctor if your child is having problems. It's also a good idea to know your child's test results and keep a list of the medicines your child takes.
