Learning About Clear Liquid Diets

Skip Navigation

A clear liquid diet gives your body basic nutrition until you can go back to eating solid food. You may need to have clear liquids before or after a medical procedure. And you will likely be on a clear liquid diet for just a day or two. A clear liquid diet may include:

Clear, fat-free broth.

Water, ice chips, and flavored ice pops.

Flavored fruit drinks and clear juice, such as apple or grape.

Fruit-flavored gelatin, like Jell-O.

Soft drinks like lemon-lime soda and ginger ale.

Sweetened coffee or tea without cream.
