This product is used to help prevent a certain infection in the intestines (C. difficile-CDI) from coming back after completing antibiotics for a return of the infection. This product is made from human stool from screened donors. It is thought to work by giving you healthy bacteria.
This product is not used for treatment of CDI.
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking this product and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Take this product by mouth on an empty stomach as directed by your doctor, usually once daily before the first meal of the day for 3 days. Do not eat or drink, except for a small amount of water, for at least 8 hours before taking the first dose. Swallow the capsules whole. Do not crush, chew, or break the capsules.
Your doctor will direct you to take a laxative (such as magnesium citrate or polyethylene glycol) at least 8 hours before you take your first dose. Carefully follow your doctor's directions for all of your medications.
This product contains live bacteria, so antibiotics may prevent it from working well. Do not take any antibiotics while taking this product, unless directed by your doctor.
Continue to take this product until the full prescribed amount is finished. Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse.
Bloating, tiredness, constipation, chills, or diarrhea may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that this product has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this product do not have serious side effects.
A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose. Take your next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose to catch up.
Store in the original container in the refrigerator or at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company.
