Your developing baby – week 5

During week 5, the embryo begins to grow into a more recognizable shape and form arm and leg buds. It’s about the size of a grain of rice.

A long tube (neural tube) develops and runs from the top to the bottom of the embryo. The neural tube eventually becomes the spinal cord and brain.

A lump appears in the center of the embryo that soon will become the heart.

The placenta begins to form and will provide nourishment to your growing baby.
