About me
I was born and raised in Tucker, Ga., outside of Atlanta. I first lived outside the state of Georgia in 1994, when I went north to attend Harvard, majoring in East Asian studies with a focus on Chinese and Vietnamese languages. I lived in China in the summer of 1996, studying the Chinese language at Beijing Normal University.
Before medical school, I taught English for a year in Vinh Long, Vietnam, a small city in the Mekong Delta not far from Ho Chi Minh City. Emory University was my home for medical school, residency and fellowship training.
About my practice
I find joy in the relationships I develop with my patients and satisfaction in their successful treatment. I completed my residency in internal medicine, went on to complete a geriatrics fellowship and started my first full-time job as a geriatrician at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. During my five years at the Atlanta VA, my duties evolved to include the palliative care clinic, palliative care inpatient consultations, and the spinal cord injury clinic. Through on-the-job training, I became certified in hospice and palliative medicine. I cherished working with veterans, their families and with my coworkers at the VA.
I left the VA in 2012 to spend a year working and studying in Korea. Upon my return to the U.S., I was very fortunate to find a home in Kaiser Permanente's Georgia Region. Here at Kaiser Permanente, I am able to continue the work I love in both geriatrics and palliative care.
How I thrive
I believe that in order to take the best care of my patients, I must first take care of myself. Our own good health is the foundation on which all other aspects of our lives depend. Over the years, I have come to realize the critical importance of exercise and healthy eating.
Each morning I exercise for one hour. On the weekends, I stay physically active through bike riding, climbing Stone Mountain or going to the local gym. To keep my mind sharp, I do a lot of reading (I am a science-fiction buff) and listening to audio books during my daily commute.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select providers and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
Kaiser Permanente uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business.
