Where I practice
It is so exciting to work with Kaiser Permanente's Georgia Region. I originally worked with Kaiser Permanente's Ohio Region, and I have always been a big advocate of the Kaiser Permanente model of health as I feel proactive health care is essential. I started my career as a registered nurse in a small hospital near Cleveland, Ohio in the mid-1990s. My experience there opened doors to allow me to pursue my bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing through the University of Akron in Ohio. I am also certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
About my practice
I am a member of Kaiser Permanente's Ambulatory Medicine Department. Since being in Georgia, I have affiliated myself with United Advanced Practice Registered Nurses of Georgia and am currently seated as the legislative liaison for the Atlanta Chapter. I have had the opportunity to work on some important legislation recently, affecting all Georgia residents and how they will receive care in the future. I also volunteer with Remote Area Medical (RAM) and have for several years. Another organization I have been working with recently is Hands of Hope Clinic in Henry County.
How I thrive
I think one of the best ways to stay healthy is to practice patience. The busy world demands immediate responses and we all need to take a step back sometimes. There are times when immediate responses are necessary, and there are many times they are not. How we feel and react affects our overall well-being.The world today can be over stimulating and it is hard to shut down at the end of the day. Remember to worry when you have to, and until then, let it go.I like to keep my home quiet with no music and no television. I think it helps the brain to rest from the constant noise around us during the day.My favorite way to stay healthy is to walk. Not only does is give plenty of oxygen to the brain and heart, but it also clears the mind and heart so that I can be fresh each day when I start again.
