Your developing baby – week 23

by Kaiser Permanente |
Fetus at week 23, illustration

At week 23, your baby is about 12 inches long and weighs just over 1 pound, the size of a large mango.

Your baby’s skin is still translucent – or see through. Ridges continue to form in the hands and feet that later will be fingerprints and footprints. Over the next few months, fat deposits will fill out your baby’s body, giving them a plumper appearance.

Your baby can hear music and voices while they’re in the womb. We encourage you  to talk, read books aloud, and play music for them.
