The changes this week are small compared to your baby's development in the past months.

In week 39, your baby is around 18 to 21 inches long and is about the size of a watermelon. Your baby completes developing their nervous system and brain and adds needed body fat.

Your baby is now:

  • Doing many things an infant would do like taking naps, getting hiccups, sucking their thumb and practicing breathing.
  • Gaining about ½ a pound a week
  • Getting more and more ready for labor and birth
  • Strengthening their immune system

You should continue to monitor your baby’s movements through kick –counts, Although, at this stage, movements may be more subtle and less dramatic due to limited space!

At 39 weeks, your baby is considered "full term." A full-term baby is one that is born between 39 weeks and 40 weeks 6 days.
