Hospital care during recovery

We monitor your recovery while you are in the hospital. Members of your health care team:

  • Massage your lower abdomen immediately after birth to contract the uterus, stop bleeding, and prevent hemorrhage.
  • Check your blood pressure for the first several hours after birth.
  • Evaluate and repair any vaginal tears.
  • Recommend pain medication for severe tearing.
  • Remove any IV line or epidural catheter.
