Hospital care during recovery

We monitor your recovery while you are in the hospital. After you give birth, the people on your health care team:

  • Massage your lower abdomen after birth to help contract the uterus, reduce blood loss, and prevent hemorrhage.
  • Take your blood pressure for the first several hours.
  • Check for and repair any vaginal tears.
  • Advise pain medication for severe tearing.
  • Remove any IV line or epidural catheter.
