I’m accepting new patients. Referral may be required. Please contact your primary care provider.
I was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in Vienna, Virginia. We originally moved to Hawaii in 2002 and the beauty of the people, land, and culture convinced us to make this our permanent home. My mother continues to work as a full-time nurse into her late seventies. Watching her love and enjoyment of patient care certainly influenced my decision to pursue the art of medicine.
Nephrology for me allows for the total care of the patient from prevention and treatment of chronic kidney disease, to the complex care of the dialysis patient, to the joys and challenges of kidney transplantation. At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, there is a true feeling of ohana. I enjoy having world-class colleagues, excellent technology and facilities, and wonderful patients to care for. My philosophy is to focus on prevention, treat with compassion, and include the patient in his or her own care. To this end, I take the time to fully explain all treatments and preventative measures to my patients until they fully understand them. To stay up-to-date about the latest advances in my field, I attend conferences and read medical journals. In 2005, I presented research at the American Society of Nephrology 2005 on calcineurin inhibitor nephrotoxicity.
I enjoy playing guitar and spending time with my expanding family. For exercise, I play basketball, golf, and tennis.
