Where I practice
I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. My parents always supported my interests and provided encouragement without pressure throughout high school, college, and medical school.
About my practice
I enjoy being a lifetime learner. The medical field, which is challenging to begin with, is always changing and presenting new challenges. The field of infectious diseases, where a diagnosis may be unclear, requires problem-solving skills. Sometimes it's like putting together pieces of a puzzle. This involves using a patient's history, exam, labs, imaging, and procedures to find treatments that can help our patients get better. Another great aspect of the infectious disease field is that it crosses paths with almost every other medical specialty from ophthalmology, to internal medicine, to surgery. This allows me to see patients in a variety of settings and interact with colleagues from many specialties. Working closely with my intelligent, personable and reliable colleagues at the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) is something I really enjoy. At HPMG, I have ease of access to information regarding office visits, including other doctors' consultations and test results. I also know that patients will have continuity of care as they transition between outpatient and inpatient care (and vice versa). My care philosophy is to be respectful of others and listen to their ideas and concerns, whether they are patients, nurses, therapists, other doctors, or family members. I connect with my patients through talking with them in clinic, on the phone, and sometimes in the hospital. I enjoy seeing patients transition from the hospital setting to the clinic setting, and helping them in the recovery process.
How I thrive
To stay mentally and physically healthy, I enjoy kickboxing, swimming, running, and reading fiction novels. In my free time, I like spending time with my new son, baking, traveling, and trying new restaurants with my friends and family.
