About me

I was born and raised in Lahaina, Maui by my Japanese father and Canadian mother. I have two younger brothers who also live and work in Hawaii. After completing my medical education at the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine, and Family Practice Residency training at UC Davis, I was happy to settle again in Maui where I live with my wonderful husband and two loving children.

About my practice

I was first exposed to the world of medicine while growing up on Maui. I was inspired by our family physician, who maintained wonderful patient relationships and delivered great care to our small island community. In high school I became fascinated with the biological sciences and realized that a career in medicine was a perfect way to combine my love for the health sciences with my desire to care for and help people. As a family medicine physician, I feel privileged to develop long standing relationships with my patients and offer continuity of care for their medical needs. I enjoy the diversity of family medicine; I love interacting with all of my patients, young and old alike, and appreciate the variety of health issues I see across populations. I strive to practice preventive medicine and encourage my patients to be proactive in their care. I believe in offering comprehensive medical care and treating the person, as a whole, when managing acute and chronic illnesses. Working with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group has given me the opportunity and resources to help me do my job right in a highly supportive and innovative environment. I really appreciate that my colleagues have a shared vision of promoting health and wellness throughout our island communities.

How I thrive

Maintaining a healthy balance between work, exercise and family life helps me to live well on a daily basis. I am an avid tennis player, active member of the United States Tennis Association, and compete in league tennis regularly. As active and on the go as I am, I am happiest when I am spending time with my husband and two young children in Upcountry Maui.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
