Where I practice
I grew up in Ohio and received my medical degree from the nearby University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. I did my pediatrics internship at the Medical University of South Carolina, where I fell in love with the warmer weather and ocean-side living. Looking for something new, I was drawn to the beautiful atmosphere and rich culture of Hawaii. Many of my family members are nurses, including my grandmother, mother, sister, and several aunts. These wonderful professionals inspired me to pursue a career in health care and to always have compassion for patients and their families.
About my practice
With a strong interest in science and so many family members working in health care, I made the decision when I was in high school that I wanted to go into medicine. By becoming a physician, I believed that I would be able to make a positive difference in the lives of others. When I was thinking about my choice of specialty during my clinical years in medical school, I realized that I was most interested in treating and caring for children. Pediatrics was the obvious choice for me. It’s a pleasure to watch the little ones grow and change and to help them reach their full potential.
To keep up with research and developments in medicine, I read several professional journals. During patient visits, I frequently reference these and other sources to make sure that my care management plan is based on the most current literature and guidelines. My membership in the American Academy of Pediatrics, a professional and educational organization, also gives me access to valuable resources and information.
When considering what sort of practice I wanted to have, I knew that I wanted to be part of a network of physicians that would help me provide the best possible care to my patients. That’s what I found within the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group. Great collaboration among the specialists here, helpful support staff, and up-to-date technology – especially the electronic medical record system – allow me to focus on my patients.
How I thrive
To stay in shape physically, I like to run and swim. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. For a change of pace, I go to the beach, try new restaurants, and watch sports, especially football and basketball.
