Where I practice
I was born and raised on Oahu in Hawaii Kai. My parents both emigrated from the Philippines and I have two older brothers. My mother is a retired obstetrician/gynecologist physician who worked with the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) for over 25 years. Not only was she the first foreign medical graduate, but she was the first female physician in the Ob/Gyn Department. Her hard work and endless capacity for caring have been an inspiration for me.
About my practice
My mother heavily influenced my decision to go into medicine. She instilled in me the desire to not only challenge myself intellectually but to also use my abilities to help others. In the emergency room (ER), I have the pleasure to see various types of patients—men and women, young and old. In addition to stabilizing critical patients, I seek to comfort my patients and help them towards better health and well-being. As an ER physician at HPMG, I am fortunate to have other physicians and medical staff who provide a team approach to patient care. If I have a question or concern regarding a patient I am seeing in the ER, specialty doctors are available to me for consultation at all hours. They are also more than happy to provide continuity of care by following up with a patient in the clinic. Providing care to patients is a privilege. I feel very fortunate to practice medicine in Hawaii close to my family and in such a supportive environment. Medicine is also an art. It is a careful balance between the complexity of the human body and science, and the beauty of the human spirit and connection we have with one another.
How I thrive
I enjoy yoga, Pilates, hiking, swimming, and being in the ocean. I love spending time outside with my husband and daughter, and also staying in to cook or barbeque with family and friends.
