About me

I was born and raised in Honolulu, the middle child of three boys. I was inspired to pursue medicine by my grandfather and my uncle who were both physicians. After my residency, I spent over three years with the Indian Health Service, where I provided medical care in the Navajo community of Crownpoint, New Mexico.

About my practice

I have always had an interest in people, communities, history, social movements, and public and personal health. A medical career allows me to channel that intellectual interest to help and heal people in a tangible, practical way.I enjoy working with people of all ages through the many stages of their lives. My particular interests are the complexities and challenges of acute illness and recovery. I also enjoy the simple conversations I have with my patients throughout the week that help me to see them in the context of their family, community and larger life.At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG), I am part of a collegial and supportive team that is focused on quality, improving care, developing teams and systems, and caring for populations as well as individuals. I think healing is found in the balance of practical solutions involving treatments, medications and procedures and those less tangible offerings of conversation, hope, support, and compassion.I serve as Associate Medical Director for Professional Development and Service for HPMG. This work encompasses both traditional human resources for the medical group, and the ongoing professional development of our physicians and providers.

How I thrive

In my free time, I enjoy distance running, hiking, reading, cooking, raising my four children, and playing ukulele/singing (kanikapila) with my good friends. I especially love going to the beach and on outdoor adventures such as camping or hiking with my family.

Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
