I was born in Bombay, India, but raised on the Mainland. I came to Hawaii to get away from the cold weather and get a piece of paradise. I live here with my wife and three young boys.
I was motivated to study medicine by my desire to improve a person's health so they can get the most out of life. Given that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, I saw it as an opportunity to make the biggest impact. My training focused on non-invasive cardiac imaging. In addition to echocardiograms and nuclear tests, I spent additional time learning to perform and interpret Cardiac CT scans and Cardiac MRIs. At the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group, I feel that all our physicians are part of a single family and are closely connected through our excellent electronic health record system. In my practice, I believe in informing patients about their conditions and making medical decisions with them, not for them. To stay up-to-date with the latest developments in my field I read online journals, attend national conferences, and engage in discussions with peers at other institutions. I enjoy preparing and presenting lectures, and I recently gave a talk at the Hawaii Echo Symposium on valve disease.
To stay physically fit, I go to the gym daily. When I can, I hike Koko Head Crater Trail and go skateboarding with my kids. To clear my mind and mentally refocus, I also practice yoga. I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling to different parts of the world to educate and enlighten my kids.
