Aleza Matayoshi, MD
I speak: English
My gender: Female
Where I practice
I was raised on Wake Island, a small coral atoll in the North Pacific Ocean. Moving was a constant in my life due to my father’s occupation. As a consequence, I have had the opportunity to have a wide range of life experiences. Having children of our own has inspired my husband and me to settle in Hawaii to enjoy the closeness and love of our extended family.
About my practice
My board certifications are in internal medicine as well as hospice and palliative care. My focus is on elder care and the special needs that we all have as we age.Joining the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group (HPMG) was always my goal as I went through training. For the Type A personality in me, care based on current research and cutting-edge technology were the hooks that drew me in. HPMG also appealed to me from a philosophical point of view. Being part of this organization allows me to focus on placing patients at the center of care. Sitting down and developing that physician-patient relationship is at the core of delivering comprehensive care.
How I thrive
I like to think I practice what I preach. Mind and body need to be kept healthy. To that end, I am somewhat of an exercise fiend. You can always find two to three books in my house that I am reading simultaneously. In addition, most of my enjoyment comes from being an old-fashioned “homemaker.” Staying home with friends and family eating and drinking is the best kind of party.
