Good health belongs to everybody

We believe that everyone deserves good health. That’s why we’re committed to building and supporting strong communities.

Everyone should have a safe place to live, nutritious food to eat, clean air to breathe, and enough money to pay the bills. When communities lack access to basics like these, they aren’t as healthy. That’s why, in 2023, we invested $3.1 billion to strengthen the communities we serve. We’re also teaming up with organizations in our own backyards, like schools, businesses, and coalitions, to make a difference in our neighborhoods.

Making coverage affordable

Helping people access health care has always been core to what we do. In 2023, 1.4 million people with low incomes were able to access high-quality health care through our Medicaid and Charitable Health Coverage programs. We also provided more than $668 million in medical financial assistance to help members get needed care.

Kaiser Permanente Community Support HubTM

The Kaiser Permanente Community Support Hub helps connect members to local programs and services that help with housing, food, utilities, and more. Since its launch, we’ve connected nearly 350,000 members to resources through the hub.

Supporting communities

When people’s social health needs aren’t met, their health suffers. So, we work to improve the health of our diverse communities by providing inclusive, high-quality care. We’re also investing in our local communities to help more people get safe housing, nutritious food, and mental health care.

Housing

Everyone should have a safe place to call home, so we make access to housing a priority by:

  • Investing $400 million to create 30,000 affordable housing units by 2030
  • Connecting 2,600 individuals and families with legal assistance to maintain stable housing, with the goal of 15,000 by the end of 2025

Food and nutrition

Access to healthy foods is essential to overall health. To help ensure more people are eating well, we build health and nutrition education and resources into our care. We’re also helping reduce hunger by:

  • Investing $50 million to ensure access to healthy foods and study solutions to diet-related diseases
  • Supporting the federal government’s goals to end hunger and increase healthy eating by 2030

Mental health and wellness

Your mental health is as important as your physical health. That’s why we’re working to ensure that more people have access to needed mental health care by:

  • Training the next generation of mental health care providers through our Mental Health Accelerator program
  • Promoting student and teacher well-being within schools by increasing access to care, addressing mental health needs, providing wellness programs, and promoting exercise and healthy eating
