I grew up in a rural area of Akron, Ohio, and I moved to Georgia in 2006 with my husband and two children. We all enjoy the beautiful weather in Atlanta and were surprised that there are so many other northerners living here. My kids miss the snowstorms they grew up with in Ohio, but my husband and I will be happy to never see another snowflake! I received both my bachelor's and master's degree from the University of Akron, and my doctorate from A.T. Still University in Arizona. I love the science of the ear and am excited to keep learning in the growing profession of audiology.
I have worked in a variety of health care environments - from home visits and nursing homes, to private practices and hospital settings. I have yet to find the one area or element of audiology that is my ultimate favorite. All of them have one thing in common that keeps me coming back for more: patient care. I enjoy the evaluation process as I find it intriguing to discover what is working and what is not. I also enjoy the rehabilitative process of counseling, aural rehabilitation, teaching and fitting amplification. Looking at what is most important to the member and trying to address those needs is an incredibly interesting and rewarding experience.
My way of relaxing is definitely by reading. Even a few minutes of reading here and there during a busy day rejuvenates me. I usually have several books "going" at one time. While you will never catch me watching a movie twice or a sitcom rerun, you can definitely see me reading a good book again! My goals this year are to drink more water, walk with my family more often and work more "green" tips into my everyday life.
