About me

Raised in New Jersey, a stone's throw from Manhattan, my parents were my role models. My father was a urologist, my mother a pharmacist, and while that may suggest that I was destined to be in the medical field, it really did not occur to me as an option until the middle of college (University of Virginia: Go 'Hoos!). I attended medical school at Howard University, and I guess you could call that tradition: It is where my parents met and my two siblings had graduated from there. I came to a decision in regard to my specialty choice after graduation, but did not realize my goal of practicing with my father; he passed shortly after I chose to be a urologist. I stayed on faculty and practiced at Howard University medical school/hospital a few years before moving to Georgia to start private practice. After a few fits and turns I finally settled into a solo urology practice that I maintained for over 20 years in Atlanta before joining Kaiser Permanente. Along the way, I met my wife and we have two children that keep me moving constantly!

About my practice

My interests in urology are varied, and I try to do a bit of everything, but I have particular interest in sexual dysfunction, non-invasive surgical management of stone disease, and the management of benign prostatic enlargement along with all urologic oncology. I believe in giving back and emphasize the importance of providing quality care to all, especially those that have difficulty accessing it. It is the reason why I practiced in South Atlanta and treated patients in the federal penitentiary for years. I am looking forward to the opportunities Kaiser Permanente provides to make an impact. And I still believe in medicine as a healing art. While the technology we have at our disposal is an essential to excellent patient care, I have not abandoned the notion that the face-to-face personal interaction between doctor and patient is just as vital.

"Listen to the patient. They will reveal their diagnosis 75% of the time before you order one test." I remember my father saying that long before I expressed any interest in medicine, and it still applies.

How I thrive

These days much of my spare time is shared with my family and engaging with my kids in their many activities including karate, soccer and baseball. When I can break away for time to myself, I enjoy photography. I have recently been learning about music theory and trying my hand at composing and production (strictly for self consumption!). I have always valued close friends and family and make a point to keep in touch and visit with them as often as I can. To me there are few things more grounding than a visit with somebody from "way back when."

Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select providers and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.

Kaiser Permanente uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business.

Information about a provider is provided to us by the provider or the provider's network, or is obtained as part of the credentialing process.
