Medication shipment and delivery

Mail-order delivery of your prescription medication is both fast and free of charge. Your order may also be conveniently picked up at any Kaiser Permanente outpatient pharmacy upon request.

Mailing methods

Mail-order delivery is primarily available through USPS and UPS. We encourage you to sign up for USPS Informed Delivery or UPS MyChoice to get tracking information online or by mobile app. Signing-up and tracking is free and allows you to decide how, where, and when deliveries occur.

Mailing timeline

Orders are usually delivered within 2 business days if shipped within Washington state. Refrigerated items come in insulated boxes with cold packs. Refrigerated packages are mailed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays before 2 p.m. Pacific time. There is limited shipping on Thursdays.

Delivery

It is up to the delivery driver to decide where to leave packages — on the porch, doorstep, or in the mailbox.

For USPS

Redelivery is only available after a failed delivery attempt. Once a delivery attempt is marked as final notice, there are set timelines for when the item will be returned to the sender. Your items will be returned to the sender on the date indicated in this set timeline unless you arrange for a redelivery or you pick up the package at your local post office before the noted deadline.

For UPS

A notice will be left at your door if the first delivery attempt was unsuccessful. A second delivery attempt will be made the next day if instructed, OR the package may be delivered to the nearest UPS Access Point for pick up. If the package is delivered to a UPS Access Point, it will be held for up to 7 calendar days, then returned to the sender.

Disclaimer

Medications are rarely lost or stolen. However, please note that Kaiser Permanente does not pay for lost or stolen medications should this happen. If no one is home when the package is delivered, Kaiser Permanente Specialty Pharmacy will not be responsible for replacing the shipment should the delay compromise the stability of the medication.
