Measuring quality

We participate in a number of independent reports on quality of care and service so that our members and the public have reliable information to better understand the quality of care we deliver at Kaiser Permanente in the Mid-Atlantic States, as well as a way to compare our performance to other Mid-Atlantic health plans.

Regional quality performance

The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) is a private nonprofit organization that accredits and rates health care providers. The NCQA’s Health Insurance Plan Ratings are based on combined scores for health plans in Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set®, commonly called HEDIS; the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems®, or CAHPS; and NCQA Accreditation standards scores. We’re proud that Kaiser Permanente is recognized year over year as one of the nation’s finest for prevention, treatment, and consumer experience. Only 17 (1.6%) of the more than 1,000 health plans rated by NCQA receive a 5.0 rating, 106 (10.3%) achieved 4.5 stars or higher, and 375 (36.3%) achieved 4 stars or higher. With 6 of the 5-star ratings – three coming from the Mid-Atlantic States Region -- Kaiser Permanente has more than any other health plan for the sixth ratings cycle in a row.
