About me
I was born in Chicago but spent the majority of my childhood in Marin County, California. After attending medical school in the Southwest I settled here in the Northwest. I have a wonderful husband who also works for Kaiser Permanente as a child psychiatrist. In addition, I have three children: twin 18-year-old boys and a 9-year-old daughter, plus two stepsons, ages 13 and 11. After six years teaching high school, I decided to pursue medicine as a career. For me, medicine combines my love of teaching and science. I help create a safe space where people can share their stories and be vulnerable. At the same time, I get to use my scientific knowledge to help educate patients on how to stay healthy.
About my practice
Here at Kaiser Permanente, Im thrilled to be part of an organization that puts patients health and well-being first. Im honored when patients allow me to play a role in their lives, whether its through preventive care, advice on staying healthy, or over the course of diagnosis and treatments. My goal is to be open and honest with my patients, to listen empathetically, and to do all I can for them. In addition to my work at Kaiser Permanente, Im a part-time clinical faculty member at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Spokane. I also founded the Eastern Washington Gender Health Group, a group of providers, therapists, social workers, and others who care for the transgender community. Each August, I volunteer as camp doctor for Camp Nor'wester Family Camp, a camp for kids ages 9-16 in the San Juan Islands.
How I thrive
Besides trying to exercise daily, I love all kinds of outdoor activities, including kayaking, surfing, skiing, and hiking. Cooking and eating healthy, fresh foods, and being with friends also nourishes me. Most of all, I love being with my family and traveling the world.

How we choose our network providers and hospitals
Kaiser Permanente uses the same quality, member experience, or cost-related measures to select practitioners and facilities in Marketplace Silver-tier plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business, and uses the same geographic distribution consideration to select hospitals in Marketplace plans as it does for all other Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) products and lines of business. The measures may include, but are not limited to, HEDIS/CAHPS performance, member/patient complaints, patient safety scores, hospital quality measures, and geographic need. Members enrolled in KFHP Marketplace plans have access to all professional, institutional and ancillary health care providers who participate in KFHP plans' contracted provider network, in accordance with the terms of the members' KFHP plan of coverage. All Kaiser Permanente Medical Group physicians and network physicians are subject to the same quality review processes and certifications.
A narrow network is defined as a tailored, tiered, or high-performance network that has 80 percent or less overlap with a health plan’s broadest network offered to a member in any type of plan offered by that health plan. Kaiser Permanente does not have a narrow network with respect to its Marketplace plans. Members enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP) Marketplace plans have access to the same provider networks as members enrolled in all other KFHP plans.
